Herrenhauser Garten in Hannover

Herrenhauser Garten in Hannover

I have just returned from the CIPEG conference in Hannover, an international meeting of Egyptology curators, organised by Christian Loeben at the August Kestner Museum. The conference attendees gave papers on their museums and exhibitions, and included Emily Teeter from the Oriental Institute, Chicago, talking about their temporary exhibition programme, Mohamed Abdel Fattah (Museum Sector, Supreme Council of Antiquities, Egypt), presenting the new museums and activities of the SCA in Egypt, Abdel Rahmen Ali Mohammed of the Department of Museums, in Khartoum, Sudan, discussing new museum developments in the Sudan, and Carolyn Graves-Brown talking about the activities of the Egypt Centre, Swansea and the Children’s University, amongst many others. I talked about the gallery redevelopment and the presentation of Egyptian human remains at Manchester, the first time Manchester has been represented at this forum. We were also treated to a guided visit of the Herrenhauser gardens, pictured, and dinner in a traditional German pub.
